The Product
In a normal home it lasts around four to six weeks per charge — that's roughly 30–50 motion activations a day. Heavy-traffic spots like a hallway or kitchen sit closer to four weeks. Wardrobes and cupboards stretch past two months easily.
USB-C charges it fully in about three hours. Most customers charge it the same night they remember to charge their toothbrush — once a month and you forget it's a battery product.
They're properly bright. Each light puts out around 100 lumens — enough to safely walk a dark hallway, see what you're reaching for in a cupboard, or read a label.
They're not designed to replace your ceiling light; they're designed to replace the moment you'd reach for the switch. Most customers tell us they end up using their main lights less because these handle the journey from room to room on their own.
No. The sensor has a built-in light detector — it only activates the LEDs when the surrounding area is actually dim. Walk past it at midday, nothing happens. Walk past it at 6am or in a dark cupboard, instant light.
This is the single biggest reason our battery lasts as long as it does.
Three modes:
On the IlluminateStrip 2.0, you can also wave your hand over the sensor to adjust brightness — no buttons.
Aviation-grade aluminium body, polycarbonate diffuser, lithium battery sealed inside. The aluminium is the same grade used in aircraft interior panels — it's why they don't feel like the cheap plastic things on Amazon.
They're rated to keep working between -10°C and 40°C, so they're fine in cold porches, sheds, and unheated cupboards.
Most of our lights are designed for indoor use — hallways, cupboards, stairs, bedrooms, kitchens.
For outdoor spaces, check out IlluminateSolar, which is fully weatherproof and solar-powered. We don't recommend using indoor models in bathrooms or wet areas — they're not waterproof.
Three things: the build (aluminium, not hollow plastic), the sensor (catches you walking past, not three seconds later), and the support (warranty, real humans, replacements not refusals).
Most cheap motion lights also use disposable AAA batteries — three of them, replaced every couple of weeks. Ours is one rechargeable cell that lasts a month. Over a year, the cheap option costs more in batteries than ours costs full price.
Installation
No — and that's the whole point. Each light has a magnetic backing. Peel the adhesive, stick the metal mount where you want light, and click the light onto it.
That's the install. No drilling, no wiring, no calling someone in. Most customers fit their first one in under thirty seconds, then wander around the house deciding where the next one's going.
No marks. The mounting plate uses a residue-free adhesive — the same type used on rented walls and rental cars for trim. Peel slowly and it lifts cleanly, even from painted plaster.
If you ever move house, the lights come with you. If you redecorate, you can reposition them without touching up paint.
The mount is magnetic, but the magnet itself is rated to hold over a kilogram — the light weighs around 90 grams. The 3M-grade adhesive backing the mount has been tested across painted plaster, tile, glass, wood, and metal.
We've had customers run them in kitchens (steam), porches (humidity), and car boots (vibration) without issue. If yours ever does fall, the warranty covers it.
All Tryilluminate products are USB-C rechargeable (cable included). Detach the light from its magnetic base, plug it into any USB port or adapter, and it'll be fully charged in around three hours.
The base stays on your wall — you only take the light part down.
Yes. The LEDs stay cool to the touch even after hours of use, there's no exposed wiring, and the build is sealed.
Many customers use them in nurseries, kids' bedrooms, and stair landings specifically because they're safer than plug-in nightlights.
